  1. Where does the teak used in LNVTs' come from? The following article claims Burma (now Myanmar). According to Wikipedia Burmese teak, genus Tectona, has a cachet that other regional teaks don't enjoy but is otherwise the same.
  2. How was the hull-molded-piece attached to the bulwark/deck/cabin-molded piece? Need to confirm that fiberglass alone was used to bond the hull to the topsides—i.e. no mechanical fasteners were used.
  3. With the switch to epoxy in the outer hull layer, how was it made to bond the adjoining polyester layer? We know that epoxy bonds to fiberglass but not vice-versa. So if the order of application in the mold was gelcoat, epoxy barrier, and then fiberglass. What was the process that made it work?
  4. What kind of foam and how was the foam injected into the bulwark?
  5. Were 49 #1, 37 #13 and 37 #61 ever built? Preliminary Answer: Lani Hart claims that 49#1 and 37#13 were not built. That 37#61 was built and that there is a 37#77 which she believes was sold to a buyer in Japan.

Answered Questions
1. How was the hull laid-up? Answer: Two major molds were used to make a tug. The first, a topside mold, formed the cabin tops, cabin sides, deck and inner bulwark. The second, a hull mold, formed the keel, hull, and outer bulwark. The hull mold was a clam-shell type, bolted longitudinally along the center line from stem to stern.

2. Why was foam injected into the bulwark? Answer: Foam is used for buoyancy in case of sinking. The foam caused the waviness in the bulwarks. The foam is also the reason any bulwark water leaks appear as a 'tea stains' on the hull, i.e. brown colored effluent.
