CONDITION AND VALUATION SURVEY 11/15/17

PRIORITY FINDINGS & RECOMMENDATIONS

1. There are no ground fault circuit interrupt protected outlets on board.

Recommendation: The current voluntary ABYC E-11 standards indicate that 115VAC outlets in the galley, head, machinery spaces or in exterior locations should have ground fault circuit interrupt (GFCI) protection.

Repair made: Replaced receptacle in head and galley

2. The stainless steel rudder has significant crevice corrosion. This may be due to inferior stainless steel or periods with a lack of sacrificial anode protection.

Recommendation: Remove the rudder and rudder post so that the rudder post can be checked for corrosion. Replace the rudder, or at minimum, have the damaged areas of the structural welds from post to blade and between the two blade sections re-welded.

Maintaining moisture barrier epoxy coatings on the rudder would help reduce corrosion. And it is critical that the sacrificial anodes be maintained to help preserve.

Repairs made: Put a new bead on all the welds. Put a new zinc on the rudder. Pulled cleaned and replaced post with a Delrin rudder bearing on the bottom end. All new fasteners.
Moisture barrier epoxy coating added.

3. The rudder post packing gland has corroded hose clamps. See photo below.
Recommendation: Replace these clamps with quality all-stainless steel units.
